“The sky is filled with stars invisible by day.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The Night Sky Postcards
What is our place in the universe? For as long as humans have asked this question, we’ve looked to the night sky for answers. Whether through sketches, scientific experiments, photography, or painting, humans have been fascinated in the study of what lies beyond for centuries. This handsome foil-stamped box holds fifty postcards, each with a single sublime image: a page from Galileo’s sketchbook, a Chinese star map, an artist's interpretation of the universe, or a rarely seen image from the NASA archives.
Sky Is Filled with Stars Necklace
This delicate yet modern necklace features the last line of one of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s most famous poems, stamped on two slender pendants of 14-karat gold vermeil (each 0.25" x 1.5"). The designer crafts her jewelry by hand in a solar-powered studio in Southern California. She casts each design from reclaimed metals using the ancient art of lost wax casting.

Van Gogh Sunflowers
Silk Chiffon Scarf
This vibrant yellow, orange, and green scarf is inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers series, a set of seven paintings made in Arles, France, between 1888 and 1889. To Van Gogh, the sunflower, or tournesol (“turn to the sun”) symbolized gratitude. According to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Paul Gauguin had seen Van Gogh’s earlier sunflower paintings in Paris and was impressed by them. When Van Gogh learned that Gauguin was coming to the South of France to visit him, he painted several still lifes of the flower and hung them in the guest bedroom. Gauguin called the paintings “completely Vincent.”

Hot Air Balloons Wrapping Paper
In the 1780s, in Paris, the Montgolfier brothers and Jacques-Alexandre-César Charles engaged in a spectacular race to levitate into the sky using balloons. Their “artificial clouds,” as one writer described the flying globes, would enthrall the French capital and set off a craze for all things balloon. Our handsome wrapping paper is based on the many prints made at that time, pre-photography, chronicling the ascensions, which were displayed in shop windows sometimes mere days after the events they chronicled.
